Posid 50 mg for injection is an antineoplastic agent available for intravenous infusion as a sterile lyophile in single-dose vials containing etoposide as the active ingredient. It is combined with other chemotherapeutic drugs to treat patients with testicular tumours and small-cell lung cancer.
Refractory Testicular tumours: Posid for injection in combination therapy with other approved chemotherapeutic agents in patients with refractory testicular tumours who already received appropriate chemotherapeutic, radiotherapeutic, and surgical therapy.
Small cell lung cancer: Posid capsule for injection is used with other approved chemotherapeutic agents as first-line treatment in patients with small cell lung cancer.
Posid 50 mg is contraindicated in patients with a history of a severe hypersensitivity reaction to Posid and other formulations containing etoposide.
Speak to your doctor if you recently had radiotherapy or chemotherapy, kidney disease, liver disorders, or low levels of a protein called albumin in your blood before taking chemotherapy medication. Etoposide should not be used if you recently got vaccinated with yellow fever and live vaccines and if you are a breastfeeding woman. Using effective birth control during the treatment and for at least six months after the last dose is recommended. Administration of Etoposide 50 may cause a reduction in the levels of blood cells and increase the risk of developing infections. Your doctor should know all the medicines you are taking, as many may make Posid less effective or change how it works. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your doctor may check your blood cells and liver functioning while taking medicine. It is important to use effective contraception o avoid getting pregnant or fathering a j child during treatment.
Nausea and vomiting are the major gastrointestinal toxicities. The severity of nausea and vomiting is generally mild to moderate, with treatment discontinuation required in a few patients. Nausea and vomiting associated with the use of Posid 50 are managed with standard antiemetic therapy. Other common side effects include anaemia, low blood platelets, and hair loss. If any of these bothers you or appears serious, inform your doctor immediately.
The usual dose of Posid for injection in testicular cancer in combination with other approved chemotherapeutic agents is 50 mg. Follow your doctor’s advice when it comes to using Posid. Stick to the dosing regimen provided by your doctor.
