Bempesta EZ 180mg/10mg is recommended as an option for treating primary hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous familial and non-familial) or mixed dyslipidemia in combination with diet in adults. It contains two active ingredients, Bempedoic acid, and Ezetimibe that are used:

     –    Along with statin therapy in patients who are unable to achieve LDL-C goals with a maximum tolerated dose of a statin drug in combination with Ezetimibe.

     –    As monotherapy in those who are either statin-intolerant or for whom a statin should not be used and are not able to achieve LDL-C goals with Ezetimibe alone.

     –    In patients already receiving the combination of Ezetimibe and Bempedoic acid as separate tablets with or without statin therapy.

Bempesta EZ blocks the activity of certain enzymes required to produce bad cholesterol in the liver, resulting in reduced levels of bad cholesterol.

Precaution with Bempedoic acid and Ezetimibe

Bempesta EZ 180mg/10mg Tablet is contraindicated in the following conditions:

     –    Hypersensitivity to Bempedoic acid, Ezetimibe, or any of the components of the medication

     –    Bempesta used with a statin is contraindicated in patients with active liver disease

The cholesterol-lowering drug has a minor influence on the ability to drive and use complex machines. However, some people may feel dizzy after taking the medication. Therefore, avoid driving or using machines if you suspect your ability to react is impaire. The safety and effectiveness of Bempesta EZ in pediatric patients under 18 years of age have not been demonstrated.

Side effects of Bempedoic acid and Ezetimibe

Bempesta EZ 180 mg/10 mg may cause serious side effects, which include:

     –    Elevated uric acid levels in the bloodstream (hyperuricemia): This can happen within four weeks of starting the medicine and continue throughout the treatment. Your healthcare professional may closely monitor your blood uric acid levels during treatment. Gout may occur due to high levels of uric acid in the bloodstream. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop symptoms of hyperuricemia and gout. These symptoms include warm joints, severe foot pain, especially in the toe joint, tender joints, swelling, and tender joints.

     –    Tendon rupture or injury. This mainly happens in people who take Bempedoic acid. Tendons are described as tough cords of tissue that join muscles to bones. Symptoms associated with tendon problems may include swelling, pain, tears, and inflammation of tendons, most commonly with the biceps tendon, the rotator cuff, and the tendon at the back of the ankle. The problems can also happen with other tendons within weeks or months of initiating the combination therapy of Bempedoic acid and Ezetimibe.

This for developing tendon issues is higher in the following conditions:

     –    Taking steroids or antibiotics

     –    Kidney failure

     –    Over 60 years of age

     –    History of tendon issue

Immediately discontinue treatment and get medical help right away if symptoms of a tendon rupture occur. These symptoms include:

     –    Bruising right after an injury in a tendon area

     –    Hear or feel a snap in a tendon area

     –    Can’t move the affected area or put weight on the affected area

The most commonly reported side effects include anemia, diarrhea, increased liver enzymes, muscle spasms, symptoms of the common cold, flu, or flu-like symptoms, stomach pain, back pain, swelling of sinuses,  joint pain, bronchitis, pain in the shoulder, arms, or legs. Patients with heart problems may experience gallstones, anemia, kidney problems, muscle spasms, and increased liver enzymes.

How to use Bempedoic acid and Ezetimibe?

The recommended dose of Bempesta EZ is one film-coated tablet of 180mg/10mg taken once daily. Take it either at least two hours or at least four hours after using a bile acid sequestrant. The dose should be limited to 20 mg daily when the medication is coadministered with simvastatin. The dose may increase to 40 mg a day for patients suffering from severe hypercholesterolemia and carrying high risk for cardiovascular complications who have not achieved their treatment goals on lower doses and when the benefits are higher than the potential risks.

The recommended dose is one tablet a day. Each tablet carries 180 mg of Bempedoic acid and 10 mg of Ezetimibe. The film-coated tablet should be taken orally with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Avoid chewing, crushing, or cutting the tablet. If you take colesevelam or cholestyramine, take this combination of medicines at least two or four hours after consuming bile acid-binding medicine. After starting the treatment, analyze lipid levels within 8 to 12 weeks. Do not discontinue taking this medicine without your healthcare provider’s advice, as you may get elevated cholesterol levels again.
