Lipitor 20 mg is a cholesterol-lowering that lowers cholesterol in your blood. Its regular usage as per doctor’s instructions causes a significant reduction in LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides in your blood. It can also raise HDL or good cholesterol in your blood. It has the active ingredient Atorvastatin, which is usually prescribed as an adjunct to lifestyle changes, including diet for the reduction of total blood cholesterol and triglycerides. The cholesterol-lowering drug is for adults and children over ten years of age whose cholesterol does not come down with diet restrictions and exercise. These include smoking, high blood pressure, low cholesterol, and heart diseases in the family. The medicine is also effective in lowering the risk of a heart attack in patients with diabetes and who are at high risk (including those who smoke, have kidney problems, eye problems, or high blood pressure). It starts to work in about two weeks of regular usage.

Precautions

If you have severe respiratory failure, had a previous stroke with bleeding into the brain, have severe kidney problems, an underactive thyroid, history of liver disease or have repeated muscle aches, then talk to your doctor. Your doctor will need to carry a blood test before and during the treatment to determine the risk of complications associated with muscles. Be sure to inform your doctor if you have constant muscle weakness. Your doctor may prescribe additional medicines to treat this condition. While you are receiving this statin treatment, your doctor may monitor you closely if you have high levels of sugar and fats in your body.

Side Effects

Lipitor 20 mg can cause severe side effects. However, a very a smaller number of people experience side effects associated with this statin drug. The side effects usually go away if your doses reduce or stopped for some time. These serious adverse effects include muscle problems and liver problems. Call your doctor if you experience tenderness, weakness, or pain without any reason. The common side effects of Lipitor 20 mg include joint pain, muscle pain, upset stomach, and diarrhea.

How to Use

Take Lipitor 10 mg as instructed by your doctor. Making any kind changes in dosing regimen without speaking to your doctor can cause serious complications so avoid doing so. Your doctor may perform blood tests to monitor your cholesterol levels during the treatment with Atorvastatin. Your doctor may change your dose depending on your blood test’s result. Do not break the tablet, swallow it whole with a glass of water. Your doctor may ask you to follow a low-calorie diet while receiving Lipitor. Stay on this low-fat diet to achieve appropriate blood cholesterol levels.
