Misoprost oral tablets contain 200 mcg of Misoprostol, a synthetic prostaglandin. It is used for coadministration with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to prevent ulcers and erosions induced by NSAIDs in adults. It reduces the risk of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers in patients at high risk of complications from gastric ulcers. For ex- elderly and patients with concomitant diseases, and those who are more likely to develop gastric ulceration, such as patients with a history of ulcers. Misoprostol has not been shown to reduce the risk of duodenal ulcers in patients taking NSAIDs. It should be taken for the duration of NSAID therapy.

Pregnant women should not use Misoprostol 200 mcg to reduce the risk of ulcers induced by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). No one should take it with a history of allergy to prostaglandins.

 

Caution should be taken when using Misoprost in patients with pre-existing cardiovascular disorders.

 

Misoprost is meant to be administered along with NSAIDs, including aspirin, to decrease the chance of developing an NSAID-induced gastric ulcer.

 

Do not give this medicine to anyone else. Misoprostol prescribed to you may not be the correct treatment for another person and can be dangerous, especially if she becomes pregnant.  

 

Misoprostol tablets may cause abortion, premature labour, or congenital disabilities if given to pregnant women. If you become pregnant while taking Misoprost, discontinue treatment immediately and contact your doctor immediately. Remember, if you use any birth control, it is still possible to become pregnant. If this happens, stop taking medicine and contact your doctor.

 

Also, the medicine has been shown to interfere with the beneficial effects of aspirin or symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.

 

Misoprostol pills may cause abdominal cramping, nausea, and diarrhoea. In most cases, these issues occur during the initial weeks of therapy and stop after about a week. You can minimize the side effects by making sure you take Misoprostol with food.

Nausea or stomach cramps may develop with the use of Misoprost 200 mcg. If any of these become troublesome or persist for longer, notify your doctor immediately. Diarrhoea is commonly reported after you start taking it. Be sure to keep your intake of fluids and electrolytes to prevent dehydration.  

Misoprost should be taken only according to the directions given by your doctor. If you have questions regarding the usage of this medicine, contact your doctor immediately. The recommended adult oral dose of Misoprost for reducing the risk of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers is 200 mcg four times daily with food.   You may be asked for a lower dose if the dose can't be tolerated. The medicine should be taken for the duration of NSAID therapy as prescribed by the doctor. Take the tablets with meals, and the last dose of the day should be taken at bedtime.
