Simvastatin tab 10 mg is a prescription medicine for patients who needs to lower bad cholesterol and triglycerides (the fatty substances) in the blood. Simvastatin, the active ingredient of the medicine raises the level of good cholesterol also known as HDL cholesterol. The medicine belongs to the statin group of drugs, which inhibits the production of the cholesterol your liver makes it. Precautions

Before taking Simvastatin 10 mg, you should not take the drug and tell your doctor if you are allergic to it, if you are pregnant, or have a liver problem. Coadministration of certain drugs may increase your risk of serious muscle problems. These drugs may include gemfibrozil, danazol, cyclosporine, antifungals, antibiotics, hepatitis C medications, and HIV drugs. Your doctor should be aware of all your medications especially if you are taking lomitapide, or any heart medication. To make sure, the cholesterol-lowering drug is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have diabetes, a thyroid disorder, history of kidney disease, liver disease, or if you drink too much alcohol. The drug may cause the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue that may progress to kidney failure. The condition may more likely to occur in older adults and people who are already suffering from kidney disorders, or patients with an underactive thyroid.

Side Effects

The most common side effects Simvastatin tab 10 mg include stomach pain, nausea, constipation, headache, and cold symptoms such as sore throat, sneezing and stuffy nose. The cholesterol-lowering drug l may also cause serious side effects such as itching, dark urine, loss of appetite, clay coloured stool, jaundice, stomach pain and tiredness. How to Use

Take Simvastatin tab 10 mg once daily when starting the treatment. For children 10 to 17 years old with familial hypercholesterolemia (a hereditary illness), doctors may prescribe 10 mg once daily. Depending on the condition, the dose may increase up to 40 mg once daily. Consult your doctor for more information. Immediately seek medical help if you have taken too much of the drug.
