Each Susten 200 mg tablet contains the female hormone called progesterone, which treats the absence of menstrual periods in women who have previously had a menstrual period. The condition is called secondary amenorrhea and is usually develop due to a decrease in progesterone. When your body does not produce enough of this hormone, menstrual irregularities may develop. If your doctor has determined your body does not produce enough of progesterone hormone, He/she may prescribe you Susten capsules to fulfil the need of the hormone your body requires. Your doctor may ask you to take progesterone capsules in combination with oestrogen-containing medications in postmenopausal women. It is also important to note that using estrogen as monotherapy may increase your risk of developing cancer of the lining of the uterus.
Do not start taking Susten 200 if you are allergic to peanuts or have other food allergies. Avoid taking medicine if you have unusual vaginal bleeding, heart attack, blood clots, liver problems, or have a history of certain cancers. The medicine is not suitable for those who are allergic to Susten or any other ingredients of the medicine. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding as progesterone may pass into your breast milk. Your doctor should also be aware of all your medical conditions such as epilepsy, asthma, migraine, lupus, endometriosis, problems with your thyroid, kidneys, liver, or heart, or have high calcium levels in your blood. Also, let your doctor know of all the medicines you take. This includes prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
The common side effects of Susten 200 mg include hair loss breast pain, hair loss, vaginal yeast infection, headaches, fluid retention, nausea and vomiting, irregular vaginal bleeding, stomach cramps, extreme tiredness, and feeling sick. Side effects of this medicine are more common during the initial days of the treatment, and usually, the severity reduces as your body gets to the medicine. While receiving the hormonal replacement therapy, some patients may also experience bleeding or spotting between your periods, speak to your doctor if it happens frequently. If you feel tired or dizzy, avoid driving or indulge in an activity which requires complete attention.
For the treatment of secondary amenorrhea, your doctor may ask you to take Susten 200 mg twice daily at bedtime for ten days. Postmenopausal women who are using estrogen should take a daily dose of progesterone at bedtime for ten days. Doctors usually advise taking Susten 200 mg at bedtime as some women experience drowsiness or dizziness while receiving this hormonal replacement therapy. In some of these women, these effects may be increased, including difficulty walking and feeling abnormal, difficulty speaking, and blurred vision. Inform your doctor if you develop any of these symptoms. Taking progesterone tablets at bedtime may reduce the severity of these symptoms. If you get difficulty in swallowing, your doctor may advise you to take Susten with water while in the standing position. The medicine is used.
